Inner Leadership With Judy Johnson

 Meesha Ghoorah

Global Peace House hosted an Inner Leadership Seminar facilitated by Judy Johnson.

The Brahma Kumaris from Global Peace house in Calebasses, organised an Inner Leadership Seminar led by the Canadian facilitator Sister Judy Johnson. Not knowing what to expect from the day's event, I went in open minded, willing to do some soul searching. I was surprised by the impact the activities had left on me which was carefully curated & orchestrated by Sister Judy. Though simple the exercises seemed, and being patient as to where this was all leading to, I discovered it was in the very nature of its simplicity that the undergoing current of experience she journeyed us through, had its subtle workings- infiltrating the mind, body & dare I say- Soul!

The most striking activity for me was when she was asking us to describe our Core. This was done by picking one thing in nature that we can relate to or are in awe of, describing it in 3 words as to why we are drawn to that particular expression of nature. We then had to start our sentence with 'Like a_(nature of choice)_ I am _' (3 reasons non tangible why this was the choice)

Mine was River

Like a River I am Free

Like a River I am adaptable

Like a River I am guided

And this apparently defines my Core. I decided I liked that. It made me feel good, strengthened and centered within, but more pronounced in me, was the feeling of submission into that higher state of being.

This re-acquaintance with my Core- because yes that's how it felt-  could not have been reached without the gentle, guided words from Sister Judy. We sat with our eyes closed while she had us paint a mental picture of us journeying inwards towards our core.

Her emphasis on Inner Leadership, was solely motivated on being led by our Core & from there to lead others.

The activities had us introduce ourselves, engage, cooperate & connect with others & it later became apparent to me that I felt a sense of equality in my mind and heart for everyone there. There was a level of comfort and familiarity as boundaries were respected and a sense of freedom was there to relax into, being with & around so many people- which is not like me as I don't like crowds and I'm generally impatient with people & their faffing about. But not then. Suddenly I didn't notice all the annoyances I would feel in such an environment, but instead felt a freedom from these discomforts and a sense of contentment within.
